Post Lockdown Essentials: Cocktail Recipes

This week guest writer Elisha teaches us how to make some super easy and tasty cocktails to see us through the last few months in lockdown. Whether you're making these with your flatmates, or you want to become the garden host of dreams, we are sure these will go down a treat.

For many of us, April 12th marked the end of all-night happy hours at home and DIY brunches in the kitchen. But as pubs and bars start to reopen some of us might prefer to stay in and play drinking games with our housemates in front of the telly. Along with lockdown, came many at-home cocktail recipes as people tried to curb their craving for Spoons’ 2 for £12 pitchers. So, whether you need some new drink ideas for pres or just want to make yourself a cocktail from home, here are five of our favourite quarantine-friendly cocktails.

Quarantini

Ok, so this one may be a bit of a cop out as a Quarantini is basically any concoction you can make at home with whatever you have available in the house. But, if you have vodka, squash and lemonade this specific recipe is for you.

How to make your own:

Grab a glass

Put in ice

1 part Vodka

1 part Squash

Pour in lemonade and enjoy!

Optional: choose a tropical or orange flavoured squash, add in 1 part Cointreau and juice from a quarter of a lime if you’re feeling extra fancy or love the orange/yellow parts of a Fruit Pastilles ice lolly.

Corona Sunrise

If you’re a TikTok fan then you have definitely seen this cocktail all over the app. A fun take on the classic Tequila Sunrise, this drink is perfect for those who want to spice up the normal Corona-lime wedge combo.

How to make your own:

Drink to the label of a Corona bottle

Pour in 1 part Tequila

2 parts orange juice

Splash of Grenadine

Juice of 1 lime wedge

Mix with a straw or by swilling it round and enjoy!

Bucket Drink

Not the most appealing name, but another delicious, viral, TikTok cocktail. Grab a bucket or plastic box, lots of ice and a whole lot of alcohol to make the ultimate fishbowl.

How to make your own:

Pour a bag of ice into a bucket

Half a bottle of Vodka

Half a bottle of Raspberry Sourz

1 bottle of lemon and lime lemonade

1 bottle of Fruit Twist Fanta

Grab yourself a glass and enjoy!

Optional: add in frozen fruit and sweets (skittles, gummy bears...you name it) and prosecco for that extra fizz

Alter measurements accordingly.

On Wednesday’s We Drink Pink

Another bucket drink recipe but more appropriately named (by us) and perfect for any group pres. Similar to the last, serve in a bucket.

How to make your own:

Pour a bag of ice into a bucket

1 bottle of Pink WKD

1 bottle of Raspberry Sourz

1 bottle of Raspberry Vodka

1 bottle of Malibu Strawberry Spritz OR Pink Gin

1 bottle of Pink Hooch Raspberry Lemonade

Give it a mix and enjoy!

Optional: add in some sliced lemons and fruity sweets.

Alter measurements accordingly.

A photo of a Dark Fruits Daiquiri cocktail

This one is for the cider lovers and blender owners. Dark Fruits is the definition of evenings at the beer garden or drinks in Hyde Park, so here is a slush puppy version of a Leeds student classic.

How to make your own:

Grab a blender and add…

1-2 handfuls of ice

1 handful of frozen berries

1 part white rum

1 can of Dark Fruits

Blend together

Pour into a glass and enjoy!

Here are our top five lockdown cocktails that we know you’ll enjoy. With end of year deadlines coming up, make sure to treat yourself with a cocktail whether it be on your night off or for celebratory drinks. June 21st here we come!

We hope this post has given you some inspiration to spice up your beverages post lockdown. Remember to have fun- after this year of madness we deserve it- and drink responsibly!

Love LRFS x
